I have two blades im working on.
Both d2.
How close should i get them to complete before sending them for heat treat?

Where would you send 2 blades of d2?
I wish I had a batch to send to Peters, but I don't right now.
Would Texas knifemaker be more cost effective?
Thanks!

I would say pretty darn close to final dimensions. Peter's says .015" at the edge minimum on stainless and air quench steels. I would also have my finish where I want it with D2, pre heat treat. My only experience is with Peter's and can't recommend them enough. That said, a friend of mine recently had an S35VN knife done by Texas Knifemakers, and they did a great job.

I try to do batches so I can send them to Peter's. I recently sent a batch of D2 that I took down to 0.02-0.03. (As Stuart mentioned you probably can go thinner, I just err on the thick side to try and prevent warpage.) Peter's did a great job and I had zero problems with warpage. Finishing them from that thickness hasn't been a problem. I have machine finished a few and hand finished others. I don't have any experience with Texas Knifemaker but have sent a few blades to Jeff Mutz at Trugrit. I don't know if Jeff does D2 however.
