Well, I thought I'd try and add a little corosion protection to D2. All I did was etch it a tad and thats it. Think it will help with kitchen wear? TAke a look at the attached.
Thanks for the input.

Looks very nice, I was always under the impression that the finer the finish the more corrosion resistant because of less exposed surface area.

Nice looking grain pattern in the steel. Not sure if will help corrosion resistants but D2 is half stainless anyway, so it should be fine.

Looks great!

but I think if it were mirror finished or near it, it would be less corrosion resistant.

high finish makes food stick to the blade

coarse finish makes it easier to rust
dance the dance :)
its a game just like steel and hardness you picks you evils

In my experience, D2 doesn't rust so much in the kitchen because it is "almost stainless", but it develops a patina that doesn't go away, so it gets sort of splotchy looking. I doubt that etching will help, but it makes it look like Wootz!

I don't use much D-2, but have found that a satin finish is easiest to put on and maintain. It is also easiest to "Touch Up" when those 'spots' appear ( and they will).
Mirror polish on D-2 is for insane people. They start out sane, but end up crazy after trying to get the mirror polish.
Your etch looks nice. Not sure how it will affect stain/rust.
I use a fine Scotch Brite belt on all my kitchen cutlery.

I was thinking about the touch up down the road this moirning. Kind of stuck with a finish like this. this knife is .020 right now and I thin kI want to go a tad thinner so I may just use a satin finish. Damn I should have made 2:D
