D2 Fascination, no idea why

My overall opinion on D2 is that it is wayyy over glorified. For some reason D2 get a pass on the forums but S30v is considered god awful. Even though with all things being equal S30V should be considered the superior steel.

Can't say I've heard S30v ever referred to as god awful before but I haven't been around all that long either. I think I've heard it's chippy but that's it. I personally really like S30V but have found it comes with a higher price tag than D2 most of the time. S30V and S35vn are a close 2nd for me as far as preferred blade steels for most tasks. The value of D2 and the hardness are what do it for me, maybe. It's really unjustified but D2 seems to do it for me.

Is the love possible because it's half of R2D2?

Add me to the list of D2 fans. Not fascinated by any means, but I'll take it any day.

HK 14716 takes a beating, and the Sharpmaker tunes it up pretty fast.

Dozier does it like nobody's business.

I love it for the same reasons others have.
Currently my only D2 knives are my BK24s and a Kershaw Leek with composite edge (It's actually CPM D2, but I'm including it.)

Any love for well-done 440C? I've slogged though Jay Fisher's pages and he swears by it (likes D2 too). My Buck Princess trio with Bos HT 440C are amazing in the kitchen.

I really like Benchmade's Adams and Mini-Grip in D2. These 2 knives made me a believer in D2. My OKC RAT 1 in D2 is not too shabby. EDC in dry environment = very good performance for me. YMMV.

My Kershaw Rake is the only D2 knife I have (like the composite Leek, it's CPM-D2, which I realize isn't exactly the same). I'm happy with it. Fantastic edge retention (it gets used as a heavy work knife), though it's a bear to sharpen (I had to buy a set of diamond plates to get it to where I was satisfied).
