I was at the new Cabelas store near here yesterday and I asked to handle an olive, plain edge Grip in D2. Jessums Pete Baby!! I'm in love all over again. My Sypdies and Bucks are second class citizens for the moment.

If your thinking of a new EDC/EDUer, you should look at this knife. Needless to say that knife went home with me and I'm currently sporting much less hair on my arm than I was yesterday morning.

I feel your joy:) Cabela D2 on bottom in this pic. Don't ask me how easy or difficult it is to sharpen, that task has yet to be required. I strop it every now and then and it remains very sharp:thumbup:

I'm bidding on a vintage barber's strop in mint condition as we speak. But yea, D2 is a little more trying when you want to put a great edge on it.

If you want strops, go hit the Badger and Blade forum. They are a shaving forum, and several of their members make professional level strops for relatively reasonable prices. They can get you more information of stroping than you can imagine.

grrrr, my wallet can't handle this!

i've been debating for a while now about mini grip
Cabela D2
or Ritter (i have a full sized and love it).

argh!

BoxANT!! Do it Man!! Just Do It!!

IF you need to sell a few queens out of the closet that your not sentimental about....Do it. You'll love this knife.

Is cabela's the only place to get a grip in D2? What is the model number for it?
Cabela's has the exclusive on it. Just do a search for D2 and it will pop right up. Mini or full size, they have both.

I intend to report on this new knife of mine when I've had some time with it. Box you should do the same. I think I like being a gripman.

I'm not happy with this information at all.

I've already got two knives on order plus a custom sheath, I was sort of hoping that I would not be spending any more money for a while and now you go and bring this to my attention.

You realise what you've done, don't you, my wife is not going to be very happy at all.

I've been thinking about a full sized Grip for a while now, (got a mini and it's a great knife), and, so far, managed to avoid spending the money. Now I have no choice.

Bugger it, maybe if I just don't eat for a few days .....

You Aussie's know how to live off the land, yes?? You'll be alright for a few days.

My wife has taken note of the growing collection and I've had to make promises I'm having a hard time keeping.

Btw IUKE,

Your D2 Grip is exactly what I picked up...I like the olive handle. Your collection is nice. Do you prefer the mini-grip over the std size one? They are very close in size. I guess I'll just have to find out for myself by getting one.

I'm really a fan of Crucibles' 154cm. How do you find your Grip's D2 compares with the 154cm Grip's in your collection. Edge retention, ease of use/carry etc.:thumbup:

Flatlander,
I much prefer the mini over the full size. I don't like the hollow feel of the full size grip. I just got the yellow one with 154cm a few days ago, so I cannot compare at this time. My green mini is 440c, I like them all, an added bonus is that the bright colors make them especially sheeple friendly:)

Well let us know what you think. I'm going to wait a bit on the mini. Don't want to cause the wife to have a stroke.

It is amazing how a pink handle makes a knife with a 4inch spear point look friendly. Utterly amazing.

Well today I was out weed wacking my apple trees. One had a bunch of suckers growing up around the base and apple suckers are reasonable tough and the weed eater doesn't get them cut down neat and clean.

So out comes my Grip and a sucker cutting I go. Now I managed to bump the large knuckle of my left index finger into the blade during all this and yep, I was bleeding all over the place. Funny thing, I was most pleased that the knife was that sharp after all the use its seen since I got it.

:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:For D2 Griptilians. They are very fine cutting tools.

I picked up one one of the plain/olive minis at the local Cabelas this afternoon. I've been a big fan of D2 since I started buying some of Bob Doziers knives several years ago. Looks like a good little brother to my orange G10 550BKHG Grippy.

The D2 Grips is awesome, it rotates as my EDC with a Spyderco Para. I have cut through metal banding and pie plates and its still shaving sharp. As for sharpening, my suggestion is to just keep it sharp, but I have never had a problem shaving with it using a Sharpmaker. The sharpening issues around D2 and S30 are overstated IMO.

I have a couple of Grips including the Cabella's D2. I was surprised to find that while dressing out a moose's head, I hit the teeth (just touched one) and ended up with very small chips in the blade. My enthusiasm for that D2 faded pretty quickly.
