D2 hardness test?

Just wondering if anyone has done a hardness test on D2 with a plate quench versus a still air quench. We're they the same rc or did the plate quench have a higher one?

I haven't done such a test, but my take on plate quenching vs air quench is that on air cooling steels it makes little difference in the as-quenched hardness. What it makes a big difference in is in straightness.
The temper is where the final hardness is determined, anyway.

What affects the as-quenched hardness of most blade steels is what degree of auto-tempering happens as it slowly cools. Also, retained austenite can be affected by too slow a cooling on some steels. The air cooling steels we use for blades can be pushed around a bit by oil quenching a few of them, but most are happy just to cool off and get hard. Plate quenching seem rapid to us, but is pretty leisurely as far as structure conversions go in air hardening steels.
