Hi, would like to introduce what I call my Elk Hunters.

These are all D2 tool steel,. a high chrome (12%) semi-stainless steel with 1.5% carbon. Industrially it is used to make tools for forming, punching and shearing steel, I have used one of the blades in this batch to cut a couple 16 penny nails in half and it had no noticeable effect on the hair cutting sharp edge. I don't really recommend you do this. But, I had to for my own satisfaction. The blanks were all water cut from a single sheet of 3/16" steel. After I ground the bevels and got them to a 320 grit finish. I hardened them by each in a separate stainless steel foil envelope, soaked at 1850f for over 30 min. in a digitally controlled oven, then each was plate quenched with large aluminum plates. When cooled they were soaked in a bath of acetone and dry ice at minus 100f for over 2 hours to convert more of the high carbon contents retained austenite to edge holding martensite. They were then tempered twice at 450f for 2 hours each cycle. These blades will take a hair cutting edge and hold it very very well. D2 is known for its hardness and wear resistance and these should be 61-62 RC. They are not pry bars, they are fine cutting instruments.

Overall length is 9 1/2"
Depth 1 5/16"
Thickness 3/16"
Cutting edge with forward finger grove 3 3/4"
with out 4 1/2"

I have been a skilled metal worker most of my life, I have been making knives for over 5 years. None of these are perfect enough to win any awards, they are part of my learning curve to become a master one day. Some have very minor imperfections that I can't fix now or am afraid I may cause real damage fixing. Priced accordingly. But, are all very will crafted, well constructed and fit, 600 grit cork belt finish and a buffed shine. Beautiful, functional and with a minimal amount of care they last to be past down. Each comes with a formed pouch, handstiched cowhide sheath as pictured. If not satisfied upon reciept may be exchanged of money refunded. All come arm hair shaving sharp. Custom orders upon request.

Beautiful knives and sheaths look functional and artistic. Appreciate the excellent explanation of your blade making. Popedandy that full length blade w/ ironwood would be my choice too.

Jim,
I was impressed by your knives when you came to my house for the Blade Show West cookout last year. However, I think that you're head and shoulders better now. You're improving by leaps and bounds. I like every knife on this thread. Great work buddy!!

Thanks for the nice compliments. I have really focused on my grinding and fit up/ Glad you like them. Now if my leather will just get here before I run out of sheaths. I ordered it almost 3 weeks ago. Jim

Your knifes look great unfortunately I do not have the funds right now to buy even your very reasonably priced knife's I know I will be kicking myself in the future for not doing so but must pass for now.Keep up the good work and hopefully I can get some of your future work.

Thanks everyone for your interest
