D2 patina question

I was cutting blackberry stocks on my property the other day with my BM Bone Collector which sports D2 and was surprised to see that it did not stain the blade at all. Out of all organic things I've found Blackberry vines to patina a blade faster than anything else I've seen. By the end of the day I even left all the juices and plant material on the blade after cutting instead of wiping it off after I use it each time like normal just to try to get it to patina a bit and not even a single spot. I was very surprised.

Drain cleaner often also contains sodium hypochlorite, which would attack stainless steel a LOT faster than the hydroxide. I suspect that is what happened in the case noted.
