D2 Planer Blade Steel

Has anyone here had any experience with what is referred to as a version of D2 that is used for planer blades? Anyone know where it can be purchased? Thanks for any info.

Why would it be different from any other D2 ??

I only know what someone else told me about it, which was that it has a higher carbon content.

Walt, you can look at this chart. Perhaps it's D2M. Daisho makes some stuff called DC53 you might google, too.

I've been making knife blades from planer blades on and off since since 96. I have a fair selection of old planer blades. I'll send you a couple with heat treating info if you email me your shipping address. If you are a masacist you can try forging them. I have done this on occasion to get a blade shape which didn't fit well on the existing planer blade.

I made a knife a couple months ago out of a planer blade and it's slightly harder to forge compared to 01 or 10xx but I had no problems. The knife turned out great and I would use it again.
