D2 question

Was the D2 used for the Impact series two decades ago different in any ways from the current D2 used for the Extreme knives? I'm wondering about toughness, hardness, ease of sharpening, etc. Thank you in advance for any info.

To be called D2, a steel has to be made to a specific formula, so D2 then should be D2 now. What can vary is how it is heat treated, and that can vary significantly depending on the intended use, or the treaters capabililities. I don‘t know how much of that info is available from Ka-bar, basically all you see are Rc values if that. Maybe you can start there.
