hasn't anyone tried to make do with a $1.4 two-sided carborundum stone for initial profiling? that's what i've been using to re-profile all my knives (carbon, vg-10, s30v, zdp 189.) the stone nearly ate up my zdp blade before i learned to ease on the pressure and concentrate on light, uniform strokes.
