D2 Steel

Is D2 a stainless steel or carbon. Will it rust or stain. How good of a knife steel is it.

D2 is close to stainless but its consitered high carbon. Any steel will rust without care.

D2 is considered semi-stainless. You really have to be careless with it for it to rust like straight carbon steels. Like Brian said, any steel will rust.

On the knives I have I've actually seen surface rust form on my bead blasted S30V and ATS34 blades but not on my D2 ones so even though D2 is technically a 'non stainless' it is the closest to stainless of all the non stainless steels. Just wipe it off after each use and care for it like you would the rest of your blades. It should hold up fine.
