I have a piece of D2, but it was slightly bent when I got it.

So I bend it straight.
Now I am afraight that the knife I make out of it will bend with heattreat.
It will be an app. 18inch knife.
What can I do to prevent this?

I doubt that it will bend if you strightned the bar before grinding. I use a pair of Artillery shell handlers gloves when heat treating. You can strighten the blade when you first pull it out of the oven if there is any warpage. Just do it while it is still very hot. Mike

I won't be doning the heattreat myself. The straightening I want to do, I want to do cold.
Or won't that work?

because of the properties of D2, straightening it while it cold will be a chore. If it does come back bent, try heating it up and slightly and over bending it back, then straight again and have it retreated. This might fix the problem I hope.

Straighten it cold before you grind and send it to Paul Bos for the HT. He will straighten it if it warps dont worry. I have gotten lots of bent steel from the suppliers and just bend it back while it is in the annealed condition.
