The new General Utility is a great knife. The blade is convex ground all the way from edge to spine, which is a big plus. If it hadn't been ground all the way to the spine, it might have ended up being much more flat than convex. I wanted as much convex to the blade as possible.
I really hope that people will start taking a closer look at convex ground knives, now that Bob Dozier has expressed a willingness to make them. Bob is known or making wonderfully functional knives, and his convex ground knives are no exception.
Bobs convex ground blades do have a little different feel than other convex ground knives. My 52-100 Marbles and Blackjacks take a very fine polish on the blades. Bobs D2 blades are a bit toothier. The thin convex grind allows them to whittle exceptionally well, but the slight toothiness makes them versatile enough for normal utility work. Convex ground D2 holds an edge exceptionally well. There is none of that edge rolling Ive experienced on production quality 52-100.
Oh yeah. Trust me. There is NO problem with hair shaving on a Dozier knife. His edges are the sharpest Ive come across.
