D5 for punch/cutter

I have had in my posession for several years a bar of D5 tool steel which I have been baffled entirely by as far as heat treat would go for a blade. It occurred to me however that the temper-resistance and air-hardening qualities might make it a good candidate for a hot chisel or perhaps a punch to begin the initial eye in a hawk, axe, or hammer.
Anyone have any experience with this steel?
