OMG, that is a greet story, good for her. Maybe I should stop worrying about my mother.

Something is eating all the space on my hard drive. Virus scans turn up nothing. I may have to take this computer in to some geeks for repair. Fortunately, we are PC-overloaded.

Tom,
try this online free scanner
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
cant really trust "any 1" virus scanner these days.
run a few different scanners.
that program MalwareBytes is supposed to be very good as well.
your description sounds more like a trojan or spyware.
Virus scanners have a hard time picking those up.

(you dont have any type of video recording/logging going on?)

Good advice Fug.

I would also check your computer for spyware. As you surf the web, spyware programs get loaded on your computer and track where you go. Before I switched to a Mac, sometimes I would find 10-20 pieces of spyware on my computer.

Tom, you may want to hook up a NAS to your router. You can pick a 1 TB for next to nothing and share it with everyone on your network.

Tom,
some of those scanners you mention I have never heard of.
I mention this because "MANY" of these so called
"free trial" pc scanners are the actual malware itself!
ones I am familiar with,
norton,malware bytes,hijackthis,mcaffee,combofix
(run Windows Malicious Software Removal tool)

can you get on the internet OK? do a google search (for anything)and
see if it takes you to the right page.
does it seem like all your bandwidth is being used up by something?
