Am I corrrect in assuming the foil wrapped boxes are full of coals?

Usually its heated by a large fire and a whole lot of hot rocks. Hot enough to melt glass. The pig is wrapped in taro or banana leaves , chicken wire and wet burlap sacks and then covered with dirt. Great eating!!!
