Nice! That's what I did last summer and it was a great project. Problem is, it's the sort of project that seems to never stop, even after your build is done.

Ain't that the truth. I finished mine and shot it some and now I want a new trigger, buttstock, and possible a different gas block.

Clich, if you buy piece by piece its not too expensive all at once. The barrel was the most expensive of the one I built.

I'm looking at a FF handguard, trigger, and maybe building a 300AAC upper for it. I bought a complete upper for mine, but have already swapped out the A2 handguard for a Magpul, I'm on my 3rd scope as I've shot it and refined what I feel is appropriate for this sort of gun. Right now I have a red-dot stacked on top of a 1.5-5x scope. Started with a 4-16, then a 3-9, but the size of the longer range scopes really doesn't fit the AR well.

What kind of FF handguard you looking for? I might be able to hook you up with one if its rifle length. When I ordered it, they sent me a sling stud instead of the handguard, so I ordered one somewhere else and paid for faster shipping. A week after I had the gun together the original one I ordered showed up and has been sitting in the box since then.

I want a better trigger for sure. Right now I just have a DPMS lpk in it and the trigger is horrible. Right now I have a 4.5-14 Burris scope and the Burris PEPR mount and that will probably stay on there. I tried a few different base and ring setups, but I really like the PEPR mount.

I don't want a quad rail, I was looking at something modular like the Midwest Industries SS or Troy TRX Battle Rail. I'm putting a micro gas block on and taking of the front sight / gas block, so mid or rifle length tube will work.

I have the same LPK and you're right. Ive started to realize that a better trigger would hugely improve accuracy. It was a good place to start, but I wouldn't buy a DPMS kit again. The PEPR mount is great! I just got one when I mounted my last scope and can't believe I waited this long to do that. Once I have a free float / full length top rail, I'll stick MBUS on there, and be able to pop off the optics and use open sights if needed.

Well my boss pointed me towards a local guy with good prices. I am still not sure if I want to go with .223 or 6.8. I got plenty of time before the check comes to do my homeworks.

I would go with 6.5 before 6.8, but it's hard to beat a 5.56 chamber for the availability of low cost plinking ammo.

I like 5.56. Cheap ammo in abundance, and if it's not cheap enough, drop in a 22lr conversion.

300AAC / 300 Blackout lets you use all 5.56 mags, bolts, etc, and just swap out the barrel for 30-cal bullet. I've seen a lot of praise and a lot of hate for this round, but the fact that you can interchange your 5.56 and 300 Blackout mags/bolt says a lot for it's versatility.

imnsho, a regular 5.56 complete can be had relatively and bought used, and then can be upgraded later. so skip 5.56 :)

6.5 and/or 6.8... 6.8 seems to be "winning" the price wars

.300 aac/blk is interesting...

i'd skip 5.7 other than for cool factor - besides, you'd be buying a complete upper there anyway (specialty item)

so, what?

7.62x39 comes to mind. effective, very accurate loads available these days (brass/modern/etc), even zombie max ;) oh, and it's cheaper than 5.56 typically

amusement: local shoppe just bought a drum of military green tip 5.56 iirc of 12,400 rounds at a cost of $4500 "ish". nice.

other amusement: there's a company offering a modular lower, that then takes various barrels, magazines, and bolts to shoot most pistol rounds, and a large number of rifle rounds. they also have another lower than can shoot the larger stuff. "MGI Hydra" - they even sell a complete in your starting caliber of interest... here's a youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xgarz8vaMWE

if i was going to go AR at all, mind you :>

Are the 25 listed the only ones who get to participate or is there a way to still get in on the next round? I though the coffee would clear this contest up for me but I still don't get it.

only us lucky few...the first round was to pick the 25...now it's all up to us. And according to Bladdy we're all sucky guessers LOL

That sucks I missed it. I was watching for bladites contest. Oh well I have a machax all ready and you dont sooo good luck thrill!

All my guesses have been proven wrong. LOL

Im about to just randomly guess. this is making my head hurt!

If you read through the clues, I guessed sheep, wondering if Bladite's mind was in the gutter. At this point, I'm not sure what else I'd guess!
