Dads, are you getting knives? ho chose?

For my father's day gift, I was instructed to pick something out at Blade 2007. I was in a lottery for a Hinderer XM-18, but no dice. Figured an RJ Martin folder would do the trick. It looks something like this:

You're missing the point, bro. Cheesy gifts are part and parcel of the Father's Day routine IMHO. What does it matter if it's a bad tie, cheap Chinese folder, or uncomfortable sweater? Not to be too cliched here, but gifts are more about who's giving them to you, not about what you get. Hell, I can go out and buy my own working knives, I don't need my wife or kids getting them for me. I say, bring on the cheesy gifts! Most of them are pretty fun, for a little while anyway.

You're right. Next gift-receiving holiday, it's back to cheese.

This one went to my dad today.

We were on our way back home from a cruise on Friday when we decided to stop and shop a little in Foley Alabama. My son and I went in to St. Nick's Knife Factory and looked around. A few minutes later, the girls came in and asked my son what knives I had looked at. They bought a titanium William Henry, a TiNives 4.25 auto and a Sebenza. My wife said the Sebenza was to be put up for Christmas but I get to play with the other two now.

Here's what my two youngest daughters gave me this evening.....

And here is a picture of the gift with the gift givers..

The coolest thing about this knife is the fact that my ten year old daughter picked it out all by herself with no help from anyone, not me or her mother. She told her mom that she wanted to pick out something by herself to give to me this year from her and her little sister and pay for it with her allowance money. My wife said that my daughter asked her to look at the knife that I carry every day and see what brand it was while I was asleep as to not tip me off. Once she found out it was a Spyderco she went to their website and started reading about all of the different knives. Knowing that we spend a lot of time at the lakes/rivers around here and that I am an avid diver she thought that the Salt series knives would be a good choice in the H1 steel and found one in her price range. Guys, I know people get tired of hearing people brag about their kids, but this deal really got me. It may only be an Atlantic Salt, but it means more to me right now than any custom I own! Thanks for reading.

An Ontario RAT-3. Got if for myself 'cause I'm divorced and my daughter lives 3000 miles away. Her call today fired me up more than the knife but it will not be here until Tuesday. I miss the kid and can hardly wait for the RAT. This site is great - hope I can stay a while

My girlfriend has exclusive rights to get me CRKT knives (vast variety, good price). Last year my 3 week old daughter bought me a Peck, and her mom got me a CRKT Pesh Kabz. This year I got an Oboe reed and some VERY advanced sheet music. When asked why no knife- she said that she did not want me to get bored with getting knives!!! Like that will ever happen!

Not that I am complaining or anything- I have needed a new reed since she bought me the oboe for my birthday a couple of years ago but I am glad that she is sure that I will never get tired of getting knives as presents- how else can I own all of them?

My wife surprised me with 2 knives. One is a Chinese cheapo butterfly knife. The other is a really nice Hubertus stag handled side lever auto. I had no idea. The butterfly knife is fun - I'm not a big bali guy, but they're fun to play with. The Hubertus is really cool.

How lucky am I - with a wife who secretly buys me quality switchblades? I was a happy dad.

I am usually asked what I would like for Father's Day and if I am looking for a particular knife, I will set up the sale through Ebay or another website and let my wife or daughters complete the sale (pay). Then I simply act surprised on Father's Day when I open my new knife. My wife used to comment in front of her friends about how many knives I have purchased for my collection (she has no idea of the actual amount Ha Ha!). I always come back with the fact of how many pairs of shoes, earings, etc. that women buy and only wear once or twice. Then end up being donated to Goodwill or sold at the next garage sale. Contrary, none of my knives have ever gone that route. And, after making my comeback statement, the subject is quickly dropped and changed to some other women/girly, whining complaint about men/husbands/boyfriends.
Stand your grounds and protect your right to collect knives!!!!! And, remember, men don't buy knives to match their shoes!
