Here's one I hope to have together in the next few days. Haven't done a spontoon style tomahawk in 4 or 5 years plus the one then wasn't anything like this one. Hand forged from a piece of 7/8" hex 1080. A lot of thinking went on during the forging.

I'll bet a lot of thinking went on! A lot of precision control as well, I really like that design. gonna be beautiful all done up!

Ray,
Did you clay harden it? It's the only way I can think of to get that kind of temper line.

You didn't hurt yourself with all that excess cerebral stuff, I hope? :D

Nanc said it best with her first comment: "That's a mean looking son of a b**ch. I like that!" Gotta love her! ;)

Was she looking at you at the time IG? :)

Nice work Ray. I can't wait to see the finished product.

ray, i love the rebirth of raymond richard since the new shop. it really seems like you're just out doing yourself one knife (or hawk) after another man. i think this has to be my favorite piece you've made, other than a few shear steel blades. keep it up man. maybe some day you'll make it back down around this area, it'd be nice to see another demo.

speaking of, why don't you come demo at ashokan sometime? that would be awesome

This is one of those pieces I must have gotten excited about. Got the handle itself finished last night but it still needs another coat of Watco. I went with oak this time. The head will mount like a hammer instead of the traditional tapered haft. I'm preferring this type of mount for a couple reasons. One: it cuts down on eye bulge Two: there's a lot more room for creativity with the shape. If I do any bling bling it will be minimal. Now if I don't screw anything up.

Scott, Yes I did used clay during heat treat. Believe most the tribes in the northwest did it that way, right?

another nice one Ray I like that..
now if you make a mini me for the head end of the handle . that thing would be really whacked out for sure..not that I wouldn't like it on a stick alone :) ,, it is sweet,, don't mind me I'm about haft way home for good, and feeling good..:D
