Daggers... are they good for anything except fighting?

There are still dagger shaped knives used for various jobs : sticking knives for slaughter , duct knives for HVAC , Hori Hori type for digging , some diving knives etc .

Some specialist fighting daggers have almost no slicing ability and are only good for stabbing stuff .

My favorite dagger is the Cold Steel Tai Pan which has a broad blade for slicing / slashing . It would work for limited utility use , but you'd have to be very careful .

Daggers are NOT good for fighting. Main and only usage is stab and sweep. Modern daggers are just a show of. Choils, serrations, wide blades and small guards are not just useless but also dangerous for the user.
About Croatia. From when is it forbid to import? Croatia laws for knives are very liberal lately. One can carry anything. Just not when going to a big gathering like concerts, demonstrations and like.

I carry small fixed blade, and I agree that carry laws are awesome.

But, try to order a dagger from Lamnia or K&T... "this product cannot be shipped to your country".

Also, double edged blades are illegal to carry, and so are spring assisted knives...

My only dagger is the one Frodo carries,

but I never carry it.

I will try to order to understand the issue. Sometimes it's about the carrier, not the laws.
Double edged and spring assisted are legal to carry in Croatia. New law from 2018.

Edit: checked. Could order from Boker directly. So it is about dealer contracting.

Then I guess you don't get in. But I have a couple of Sikh friends that managed to travel places without a dagger.

Yeah, jokes aside one of them showed me an emblem or pendant he is carrying that symbolizes the things they are supposed to have on them at all times.

Oh well. I guess I'll start my own religion where it is obligatory to carry a dagger and it will be mortal sin to use little representative tokens instead of an actual dagger 😜.

Are you sure it isn't a thing with daggers coming from the US/UK? I know other EU countries have issues with blades from overseas but don't give a damn when the blade comes from Europe. Try filofiel from Spain.

Impressing girls (assuming you have a big dagger)
Really messing up those guys that try to baton everything (which piece of wood will they split?)
Being as good as a shortsword to hobbits
Putting your eye out
Spreading peanut butter (in a tough neighborhood)
