Daily carry knife

jpbulli, if you are at all interested in the Native still, I have a couple of suggestions. I was just over at chaicutlery ( http://www.chaicutlery.com/ ) and noticed that James Mattis has the SS Handled Native with AUS10 blade still listed. Don't know if he still have any in stock, but you could e-mail him at info@chaicutlery.com to find out.

Also, I have heard rumors (maybe confirmed by Sal) that the Native will be offered in CPM440V blade steel (not the BF Native) in the not-too-distant future.

Cant you tell I'm a Native man?

I finally found another Spyderco dealer that had the Delica98. I have no idea why, but it seems like the local stores have no stock. But guess what...they wanted $64 for it! Still, it gave me a chance to get a feel for the knife. It's definitely about the right size, but I think I may hold off until the BM 705 (MiniAxis) comes out in plain edge. I got a chance to look at the preproduction a few days ago. While I don't like the combination edge, it felt great, and I may end up using that as my smaller daily carry.

In the meantime, the Native and Delica both look good. I'll check out chaicutlery...thanks for the tip. Question - is AUS-10 that much better than the GIN-1 that comes with the zytel version?

$64.00!!! There's Delicas that go for half that on the net. Talk about highway robbery. Shop around on the net.

Shipping is pretty cheap for one knife and if you buy from out of state, you'll save on sales tax too.

jpbulli, from what I have found on the 'net, and in the steel FAQ here at bladeforums, AUS10 is similar to 440C, maybe ATS-34 or -55, except for the addition of vanadium. Plus, if you want to believe Cold Steel, it is the new wonder steel (although it isn't new). From what I have read, it should be better than the GIN-1 at edge holding. But, to be honest with you, as an owner of the Native Zytel with GIN-1, it holds an edge pretty good.
