Daily hike gear?

Well, unless you keep using the hand to climb, you don't need a pair of gloves. So far, I haven use any. I think a pair of good boots and clothes that are breathable are essential.

to lazy to read over all the replies but i would have to say bring a pair of gloves with a durable palm.

Most of the essentials have been covered, but I also recommend a light pair of gloves...I've been using Grier kangroo-skin gloves, very thin, light and durable. Really helps if the trail has briars or thorns.

A small Camelback or similar hydration pack helps to keep the water handy and allows you to keep your hands free...my kids love them.

Strongly agree with the TP and wet-wipes:)

Beef jerky is usually salty and will make you thirsty.

That's why you bring plenty of water with you!!! Don't go around knocking the beef. I never go hiking without at least 1 if not 2 bags of pemmican. Hatch makes a pair of kangaroo plamed tactical gloves/kevlar that are light, breathable and cost around 30-35 on the internet.
