The cost of that knife is $375.00 as pictured. A Damascus
blade (stainless) would run $150.00, the mokume handles would run $125.00 and
the gold lip pearl would run $65.00. I would not charge any more for the
carbon fiber. The total package would be $715.00 and I would throw in some
file work and that would also include a Damascus latch if you wanted a latch.

For a
deposit...I was asking $50.00 to hold your place in line.
the delivery would be the end of December.

. What I normally do is contact
the person about a week before I start the knife and let you know that I will
be building the knife in about a week. You can then send finale payment with
in that time, that way when the knife is finished I can send it out pronto.
I would give the mail another day or two. Oh, I should start these balis in
about 3 weeks.

I received the money order yesterday, just to let yo know.

Dec. 2
I plan to get going on the balis towards the end of the week. I should have
the steel in the middle of the week. On your bali, should be completed in
about 1 1/2 weeks

Dec 20
I'm still waiting for some of the materials to make the bali. I some of the
supplies but not all. I'll keep you updated.

Jan 25
I finally received the rest of the
material. It was supposed to have been sent over 4 weeks ago. It was lost
in the mail system and the guy had to remake the mokume. Anyway, I should
have your bali finished with 7 to 10 days

Anyway, looks like at least a week before it's finished. When it rains it pours if you know what I mean...I guess snow and ice for now

Mar 20
I should have all the special orders completed in about 5 days. So sorry for
the wait.

Sorry, I forgot to email you back the other day. Anyway, yours was coming along fine, I had to get another piece of mokume for one side of the handle, the one I had had a real bad flaw. I should have it completed week and a half tops. Man, it's going to be killer

I hate to do this, but I'm not the only one who's been waiting since late last year with continual responses of 'a week and a half'. My last 2 e-mails have not received a response, but the last one was just this Sunday, so I'm still hoping to hear good news. I would like to think that even if Mr. Reif became inundated with orders that he would have placed those fully paid orders which were supposed to have been completed in a timely manner at the front of the queue. I myself paid in full at the beginning of Dec., work was quite hectic at the time, and I didn't want Mr. Reif to have to wait too long to get his money. Slightly ironic. The time frame itself has not been a problem, I know several orders from prominent makers can take over a year. But I doubt it's with these monthly guarantees of 'almost ready'.

Have faith; Dale Reif is of unquestionable character. The wait will be worth it.

I cancelled my bali order with Dale not because he's a bad knifemaker, but that he kept missing his promised delivery dates. I sincerely hope that whatever is causing this issue goes away quickly, and peacefully.

Amen! It'd be a real shame to lose such a talented maker to poor business pratices.......:(

I just sent an e-mail cancelling my order. I'm just not comfortable with how things have gone. I hope he responds to this e-mail.

I canned my atrox way back when due to delays and Dale did the refund OK...no problem there. He seems a top guy, just a shame the knife didn't happen.
