I had the pleasure of picking up a d'allara today at my local outdoor america. I had a little extra scratch from selling a knife and thought I would celebrate.

My first impression of it was WOW, it is a nice, big folder.

I have to say I love the ball lock as it seems secure and is VERY easy to use. My complaint with linerlocks and framelocks, while secure, are not ambidextrous.
This ball mechanism is pretty sweet!

i also love the blade shape. I guess it's a modified sheep's foot? reminds me of the bm grip with modified SF blade. I have always been partial to this blade shape as it seems both sturdy and versatile.

anway, thought I would give another thumbs up to Spyderco for making a great knife (although, I understand it's not discontinued).

take care all,
brett

It's my favorite Sypderco so far...I have a combo edge, with another combo on the way along with a plain edge to put back now that they're discontinued. I love the Ball Bearing Lock and overall solid smoothness...;)

It's also my first Spyderco, and I just hadn't developed an interest in their knives until now or I would have had one before...just what I need, another maker to obsess over...now I'm checking all the Spydies out and thinking about a KiWi in red bone! :D

Ray :)

I picked one up at the discontinued prices. I really like it. I got a plain edge although I wish I had gotten partially serrated now that I've used it for while.
I feel sorta guilty that I didn't get one until it was discontinued, although the price point came into the range I was willing to pay for FRN scales... I hope they make more ball locks as I think its very neat.

well, I've been using it for a couple days now and I LOVE it. It's a solid knife and will probably see a lot of pocket time with me.

I carry a slipjoint but there are some tasks I don't feel comfortable using it for. This will do JUST fine.

Take care,
Brett

I was originally looking for a durable multipurpose knife. Something for utility, SD, etc. One of the members recommended that I should consider the D'Allara. It is a hardcore knife. The lock is easy to use and tough. I am a fan of VG-10. This knife is so well made. Rock solid without any blade moment.

It was the "poor man's Mini Manix".
Absolutely great knife! I hope one day there will be a D'Allara 2 with nested BB-lock...

I find myself constantly grabing this knife for EDC duty......many many attributes......smoothness of function, great handle, ambi ball lock, great big spidie hole, and low profile wire clip.....love it!!!

I had one but sold it. Liked the size, handle and blade. Did not like the ball bearing lock. It locked open well enough but found it to be slippery when trying to close.

It's sad that there are always a bunch of Spydies that really come into the limelight AFTER they've been discontinued...
