D'Allara Rescue model changes

I'm in the market for a D'Allara Rescue knife. But I'm having a slight issue. I'm aware that the knife went through a few small changes in it's life span before it got discontinued. Is their anyway to tell the difference between an older style and one that has been improved? I've noticed two different SKU numbers for them - C82BK and C82SBK. From what I've read the S designates the spider edge. However I believe all of the D'Allara Rescue knives were spider edge. Could it be possible the S was left out of the early models and added later in the production run or vise versa? I would much rather have a later model. I've seen it mentioned it had a wider channel for access to the bearing, and it was smooth under the clip to avoid damage to your pants.

Thanks for any help.

Well if the sku's are unknown can anyone tell me if they did remove the texture under the clip on the later model. I think that would be the easiest thing to ask someone selling them to see if it was a newer model or not. I'll try asking over at the spiderco forum if I can get a email that will work.

Hi Sionow,

1) We made the first change in texture from the WTC model to the current style of directional texturing. Rescue blade

2) Then we thinned the handle and removed the texture from under the clip. We also softened the texture. We also changed the clip shape to accomodate the thinner handle. We opened up the area around the ball to simplify unlockiing.

3) Then we changed the blade shape to the current drop point D'Allara2.

Many changes on the model over a few year period.

I'm also working on a refinement of the current model and plan to do a test model sometime in the next year.

Thank you very much. I can't wait to get my hands on one.

I recall some talk a while back about making a mini D'Allara. I hope that's still in the works.

What would be really cool is an orange D'Allara with H1 steel and a Ti clip.

Will the fatter scales from the earlier versions of the Rescue model fit on the current generation drop point, and if so...can I buy some? :D

Love the D'Allara, but it's a little too svelte (and it sooo needs a finger choil...) :p
