Dallas Police and Martials Arts - Part 1 of a new series?

Richard, I believe Steve is referring to Germany's history as a violent agressor in the 20th century. I believe it is well documented and Germany has accepted responsibility, however, you must understand there are still very passionate nationalistic feelings over here about that. Many of our grandfathers died putting a halt to Hitlers EVIL ajenda. Also today many Americans don't think too highly of the French/Germany position on our War on Terrorism. Many of us (I) see EU countries as profiting from the sacnctions program in Iraq, and hence overlooking ongoing breaking of the rules by Iraq. We didn't/don't like our ALLIES putting their ill gotten gains before our countries national ties.

Now Steve, your post went too far and advocated ultra-violent police policies. It is not whether the cop in this instance was right or wrong, but, to me, more about training and our expectation levels with respect to how skillfully he should have been able to handle an unarmed drunken women on skates. Not saying its an easy situation to handle, but dammit we expect a very high level of skill, and its not too much to ask. Why did he have to put his knee on the back of her head like that? Then you come along and say she deserves death. Too much...

aproy1101,

I know what he is referring to. I was asking for a reasoning. I am 22 years old. Please guess how much I was involved in WWII. Hence I can see no reason for not speaking up against violence, even as a German. Apart from that, to further illustrate my point, I am quite sure that there is not a single civilisation that has not a rather bloody history at some point. If you'd like me to go into more details, please let me know.

Second thing. Please understand that I am not a politician. I am not responsible for any political decision in Europe nor in Germany.

Third. I am sick of getting labeld. This whole black and white political bashing makes no sense at all. I don't think everythings as easy; at least for me it isn't. I am glad there are so many people here on this forum [mostly in the politcal forums] who understand it all.

Last but not least - I think my viewpoint on violence against as well as by cops is pretty clear. If you attack a cop, expect to be treated accordingly. This should not apply to a disobeying drunk skater though; apart from the fact that -in my opion- there are more important things than traffic violations. YMMV.

Sidenote. When I talked to some of my friends in that communist part of the US; I was quite surprised to learn that they didn't have a single clue why Schröder backed out of the war in the first place. To make a long story short, he won an election he likely wouldn't have won if he'd gone to war with the US. Don't know whether this was a good decision or not, I'll leave that to the people who know and understand it all.

sincerely,

Keno

Keno,

I'm not trying to rile you up, or label you at all. We are of the same opinion about a large policeman bullying a drunk girl on skates. I've been clear about that.

Also, I knew why Schroder did what he did. His strategy was clearly anti US and his speaches were all loaded that way. The problem is that HE WON. Public sentiment is what drove his plastic ass to say those things. Then when the votes were tallied we knew where we stood in the hearts of the German people. It hurt us and made us mad. But hey you guys finally elected someone with some balls (figuratively at least).

Incidentally, which part of the US do you refer to as "communist?"

I was referring to California. I love that place, and I have got some very close friends (actually they're more family than friends by now) over there.

Sadly, California has been labeled Communist by some of the hardliners lately, I suspect that is a political thing. Again, label your enemy; everyone's the same over there.

Not to get too much OT, but after all this is the cantina. Of course he won. People dont like to go to war, it doesn't matter to the general public whether it is necessary or not (now that's another discussion). Surprisingly, for Schröder, he kept his word though.

The part about labeling wasnt directed at you, though. Just a general thought.

Keno

California was the obvious guess, but I just wanted to check whether that opinion had made it over the ocean. Us Southerners love having California to look down upon. Its like standing on the last foothill at the base of a great mountain and looking down upon the plain before the sea. Hey, as we see it, at least we aren't down there. Of course if the chocolate city junk keeps coming up we may just find ourselves stuck at the shoreline looking up at everyone else in this land, even the Californians. Poor Canada even has to take it from those silly Californians, sorry Canada, but its just fun to pick on you.

Steve and Richard,

Please extend each other the courtesy due gentlemen. Your debate is interesting and we may all learn from it, but the personal attacks can be omitted.

It is easy to mistype or to express something imperfectly. In such a case it is better to help each other to clarify the thought than to attribute base motives, malign nations, etc.

Thanks.

Howard,

will do. I considered my response pretty harmless [taking the circumstances into account]; I didn't know I used personall attacks or insults. If that was the case or if it seemed so, I'm sorry.

Keno

Btw -I always sign my posts with 'Keno' because that is my name, no need to call me richard. :) If I could've changed my username without being charged $10, I would've done it by now.

Hi Dave:

Sure we are all friends here. One of the wonderful freedoms we have in our country is the freedom of speech. We all have opinions.

No 22 year old liberal german has the right in my book to speak negatively about the USA. I wonder how opinionated he would be if we had left the germans to russian occupation?

I never told the german I would shoot him.

At this point I'll drop off this thread. There are plenty of sensible threads to enjoy.

Thanks, Steve

Keno,

You threw me astray with the username. Please excuse me. It'll probably only be a week or so before I forget again. Thanks for your tolerance.

If the latter comment was referring to WWII, remember that there was an East and West Germany, and that neither Keno nor myself played any part in how that came to be. Why bring it up?

There's nothing wrong with disagreeing; without dissent, there can be no reasoned debate, can there? But personal attacks are seldom productive and often lead to the crapping up of otherwise informative threads - exactly as we have done here.

Do you see where I'm going with this? Forget who's doing the talking; focus on what they're saying.

Well, back in Dallas it looks like this officer has gone too far in the past and this will probably be the end of his career, at least on the street.
No gold shield.

Good riddance. I can't say I know the situation thoroughly, but he seemed to act like a bully here. Couple of years ago in Atlanta, when the airport was at high security we had a similar situation. There was a lady trying to offload her elderly mother from her minivan, and a policeman came over and told her to move it. Space was limited and as she was pulling away she clipped the cop in the shoulder with her rear view mirror. Keep in mind she was going < 5 mph here. He pulled her from the van and body slammed her big time. Unfortunately for him the whole thing got cought on video. You could see him literally pick her up and throw her down on her back. He eventually was fired.

Here I'll take a moment to pay respect to the police. He probably had a long day, and that the job is inherently stressful, and not easy, and underpaid. Our first responders are heroes in ways that don't get noticed, and I respect their sacrifices.
