I went. It was a decent show. Probably 90% slipjoint pocketknives. Which was great! Really had a good variety of new, old, production, etc.
I didn't see an actual GEC dealer but several people had GEC pocketknives. It was my first time putting my hands on one. I wasn't impressed. I would argue that Case is not only better but also more attractive and affordable. GEC is just overpriced for no reason.
I was hoping to see some SAK alox but only saw maybe ten or so SAK's at all. I saw a fair amount of Kissing Crane. I thought they were considered a cheaper company though?
I did have one company catch my eye. Indian Head. Does anyone know anything about them?
Blue Creek Cutlery is the GEC dealer at the show. Ken was doing a brisk business. They have trademarked the old Maher & Grosh brand which started back in the 1800's and petered out in the 1980's. Going to have Queen and GEC make knives for them with that trademark. Thought that was rather cool. Their first knife is made by Queen and I believe a special order has been placed at GEC.
I felt that way about GEC at first. I looked at the price and said... why is this better than Case? Then I kept looking at them and finally purchased my first. In my opinion the difference is substantial, but you have to learn for yourself.
Added: The one dealer there was dealing in older GEC knives and they were not cheap. He had probably 100 GEC knives on display. You need to look at the new releases and develop your perspective from them.
