I am looking for tips and techniques or tools to help me along on a billet.I got the 1084/15n20 welded and drawn out,cut restacked and welded again.I am ashamed to say how long it has taken.I am working with a 3lb hammer.I realize a bigger hammer would help but I can't swing anymore with control and with out pain.

If a press or power hammer is out of the picture for now, a case of beer to a friend to serve as a striker just to get it forged down might be well worth it. You'll need to instruct him where to strike it and when and work out a rhythm.

If your elbow is what is hurting and its not just muscle fatigue, stop and rest it for a couple of days. It won't get better it will only get worse unless you rest it...

Know a guy who got by with a treadle hammer before moving up to a mechanical power hammer.

Step one, join the AFC to meet local blacksmiths. It is quite possible there is a blacksmith not 20 miles away with a powerhammer, and he might let you use it if you're nice...

Thanks for the replys,a hammer or press are not in my near future. But i will be thinking of it.I have an idea to work the billet thinner ,instead of drawing out from 6" to 12".How about going to 18" or 20" and then fold.Let me no if this is a good idea.I no it works easier thinner.
