I recently damaged a washer for my Endura ZDP-189 while reassembling it and I contacted them with a request for a washer.Their response was they could send me a used one  or I could purchase a repair kit:eek:.

My question is what is Spyderco policy on parts been sent to customers at no cost.I know they do charge for pocket clips but what about everything else.

Actually, taking apart a fourth generation Delica or Endura does not automatically void the warranty. However, the warranty does not cover lost or damaged parts due to the owner's actions. The fact that something can be taken apart doesn't always make it a good idea to do so.

Just be glad that they will sell you a repair kit instead of telling you to buy a new knife.

What's in a repair kit? Sounds like something nice to have on hand. I am kind of surprised the washer was damaged. I would think the easy part to damage while taking it apart would be the backspacer, if you don't put it back right it is easy to damage the little plastic pin on either side.

Yeah, what is included in a repair kit and how much are they?

I'm about to send in one of my Sages and my CF Millie to extract and replace some stripped screws (came that way) but if I can just pay for a repair kit I can do this work myself. I need a stand off for my Sage too.

The repair kits are only available for the Endura4 and Delica4. Your Sage and Military should be sent in if they need work.

What does a repair kit cost? I see it includes the backspacer, do you just specify the color of your E4 or D4?

The backspacer is black, if you buy the kit. I suppose they could give you your specific one if you order from the company. I got mine from a retailer, and it came with the standard black backspacer.

You damaged the washer while taking apart. They should not pay for a washer. Taking it apart voided your warranty.

I actually had just finished sharpening my knife, cleaning the blade, when I noticed a gritty sound coming from the blade everytime it was opened. That is why the knife was taken apart.

FYI,the phoshorus washer are extremely thin, somewhat like the thickness of paper.Don't know why they're so thin but I do feel they should keep a supply of washer on hand for those like me just struggling to lineup the pivot with the washers, blade pivot, inserting the bolt from one side of the handle to the other and all the while holding the lock down.

Your mistake will cost you $17.50

Pricey yes, but it'll offer you to make mistakes on other parts free of charge. FWIW I do think the pricing is pretty fair.

I'd go for the free washer myself. It isn't like they are gonna give away a faulty part....and if it doesn't work you could then buy the $17.50 kit.

Friends don't let friends take apart knives.

you could just easily made a new one out of an old razorblade.
Quite easy and reliable...

The washers is in the mail,I don't think this is going to be an issue again since I'll be more careful next time.Actually,I took the knife apart on two different occasions but this time,I was pressed for time.

I do have a large enough hand punch to make one but I've found the metal used is a bit brittle.
