Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone has dealt with this web store. I wanted to order a Mcusta damascas folder and wondered if they were reliable. Thanks for the info.

Buying Damascus bladed knives is one of the most frustrating endeavors one can be faced with.
Just a few years ago they were prohibitively expensive. Now they can be had for well under a
hundred $$$. And no one advertises layers, Rockwell Hardness or steels. And since most are imported,
you can forget getting any real information from a manufacturer's website. MCUSTA and Bear & Sons
are exceptions. I've heard good things about MCUSTA, though I've never seen one. As for Bear, it
makes excellent knives, but its Damascus isn't drop-dead beautiful. No swirls and little contrast.
Still, it's very functional.

I think it safe to say that the beautiful Damascus that is quality made will tend to be very expensive.
Cheap Damascus can be made beautiful, but it won't really be all that functional.

Since I love Damascus steel, I'll keep the knife store you mentioned. Not many on this board seem to
be really into it. Pity.

This Boker Damascus is beautiful, but way expensive, like
$600+. Ouch.

I've bought all of my MCUSTAs from damascusknifestore. I currently have 4 and I still have a few on my 'to buy' list.

I'd say you're good to go as I've never had any problems. They were a little slow to ship, but I usually got everything in about 10 business days if not sooner. Nothing terrible, just not New Graham fast. ;)

Thanks all for the replies. I ordered from Damascusknifestore and Shawn from there said that it would ship this monday. I'll let you know what I think of the Mcusta damascas gentlemans folder. It will be an everyday carry for me.

I've tried to order from them twice, the last time being 1-8-08. Both times was for a Puma Damascus folder, the first time ending before I was able to send them payment as they were sold out. This time, I filled their order form out on that date, got an order number, and made it to the bank and grocers for a MO (My bank only sells Bank Checks - $5+!). Shawn's e-mail of last Friday evening said they sold out the first day - they could sub a different knife, put my MO on credit, or return it. I opted for the return, which, a week later, still hasn't happened. They are aka 'Ability Web Service'.

Quick follow-up... today's mail - in the snow - brought the return of my order form and MO. Give a plus for their follow-up. Two strikes as far as stock is concerned. My placing an order had little meaning re available product. I doubt I'll try again - anytime soon. Good luck!
