I finished this knife yesterday and thought I'd post it. Chuck Ward got it photographed and he done a great job.

The blade is 1080 and 15N20, the fittings are Stainless and Silicon Bronze, and the wood is Ringed Gidgee. The blade is 8 inches and is 280 layers. I will probably put it on my available page on my website.

Yep, another beauty. Nice touch on the fittiings & I really like the bronze in the guard.

Thanks guys. Its slow, but I'm gettin there:) .

Did you notice the bronze pins in the guard above and below the blade? I had to make those from some plate material. Its not too hard of a material, so I was able to pein it into some little countersinks. I did not want to rely totally on the stiffness of the stainless. Sometimes I solder a joint like that, but I decided to pin this one. Also, since my bronze stock thickness is mostly 1/8, I had to thin the layer in the guard. I wanted my total thickness to be slightly over 1/8 inch. I just dont like thick guards.
This Gidgee is some that I got from Bruce Merchant of Australia. He also goes by Merchant Woodcutters. It is a wonderful material. I lost his contact info. Would one of you have it? I cant seem to get anywhere with a search. Thanks, Lin

Lin,

I don't have his contact details, but he's on Ebay and his handle is "bushworker", you should be able to get into contact with him that way.

And that's a really, really nice knife.

This is a great looking fighter. I like the whole package and especially the guard

Lin,
Your knives are PERFECTION. I know Raymond Richards said that first but I agree.
Nice Damascus, love the way you use bronze and stainless in your guard/ferrule design. The two bronze pins in the guard are quite striking.
Handle looks to have nice ergos as well.
Sweet fighter!

Really liked your Vidalia fighter as well but didn't post in that thread.
Nice pics.

Lin, you should use Damascus more often. I was viewing the knives on your site and was perticular drawn towards your Damascus.

Lin,

I must say, I thought that the knife you made me was awesome, but this takes the cake. I love the sandwiched guard and ferrull design. Gotta say, you have the Nicest bowie's on the internet, and as I can attest, they hold one hell of an edge.

Thank you fellas.

I have been having some trouble with my damascus in the last few months, but have worked out the problem. It was my methods. I did a little experimenting with my forge settings and asked a lot of questions (still am) from Ferry Fisk and others and I feel like the problems are pretty well eliminated. Plus I just got my new air hammer up and running. I have yet to use it for damascus, but will soon. I've had to get some carbon blades ready.
I plan to be broadening out a little this year by adding some other patterns of damascus and am going to have some on the table in Atlanta.
As you can tell, my damascus the pattern can be distorted by the forging process. I like the look of the pattern being stretched into the blade shape. Of course, I will do some of the more precise patterns as I get better and the pattern dictates it.
All this being said, I will still concentrate on the high carbon blades for the most part. Thanks, Lin

Looks, IMO, to be the best knife that you have made to date.

Best Regards,

Hi Lin.
I really like the knife and think it would really shine in a slightly bigger version.
I find the handle pin distracting though. Just a very minor dig.

Anthony,
Thanks. Seriously, what would you suggest concerning the pin? Different material? smaller? or no pin(hidden) at all? Lin
