My next knife I wish to start next week is a customer order for 150 bucks. I have leeway on design and material so long as it is of D'Holder or Loveless design and a certain blade size and no less in handle value than fancy wood. I've had some of Chuck Leake's ivory burning me up to use for a couple months now. I consider myself still in school so don't mind going extra on a knife I won't make any money on so long as it will be shown. However, I do not want to use a set of Mammoth scales on a plain Jane and I do not want to purchase something special for this handle from a knife supply house.
I would like a piece of Damascus for my bolster from one of you smiths and expect to pay the fair price. I will want to curve it into the ivory so it will need to be a bit longer than normal. I would say a piece 3/4 to 13/16 long X 1 1/2 wide X 1/4 thick should do and I would rather have enough for two guards: a saw width longer than 1 1/2 to 1 5/8 inches long. Thickness is not critical but should be close to a minimum of 1/4 inch.
Thanks; Roger
