how do most of you attach damascus bolsters? i was thinking of making screws from the left over bar stock or use a black allen screw. i dont want to pin it with stainless or brass because i think it might stick out to much.would making pins out of the stock then peening work? it dosnt have to be invisble. i just dont want it stick out like a sore thumb. i sorry if my ?'s are a little silly. im really not 100% sure what im doing and what the general excepted practices are but have found a wealth of knowledge on this site. thanks. brandon.

Is this a folder or fixed blade? In either case, I think stainless pins would be less noticeable than black screws. If you have access to a lathe though, I suppose you could make pins from your leftovers. I always pin bolsters, but I've heard of makers using stuff like JB weld for a "pinless" bond.

I solder the bolsters on both fixed blades and folders. If working folders than the Chris Crawford PDF or DVD would be helpful.

I have 1/8" damascus rod that I pin with. Bought it from,,,Sheffield or K&G or ????. They pein well and dissappear as much as could be expected as they don't have the exact pattern as the bolsters. Check around...they are available.

thanks for the responses. sorry i didnt clarify this before but its a fixed blade. i hadnt thought of soldering them. that to sounds good. maybe out of my league but i might be able to pull it off.i think my skill level will probably be best with turning some of the leftover stock and making pins. this wont be me turning them by the way. i will ask the machinist at work do it. he told me he would make anything i couldnt or at least show me how to. we have every piece of equipment ever needed to make knives from cnc's to a waterjet at work and there just wasting it on aircraft.lol thanks again
