This piece impresses as a step up from your already impressive body of work. There is real sohpistication in the execution of the fittings (which has been expertly captured by Coop). Well done.

Thanks to ALL you guys for the comments. I just love making knives and when you guys like what I'm doing that just makes it that much more enjoyable.

Mike, Awesome knife!! Fit and finish as always exquisite, you have just gone a few steps more up that ladder. Your work improves with every piece you make. That is how I remember the shape of a true Bowie to be. Keep up the excellent work.

I like what I see. I have a question. Do you leave the ivory slightly larger than the fitting, allowing for a bit of shrinkage, or do you leave the ivory flush with the fittings? The reason I ask this is that I am finding that I live in a very dry area (even in the summer) and I have found that all my ivory handles have shrunk and that leaves the metal sticking out and makes tha handle uncomfortable to hold. The few knives I have where the ivory was left sticking out a tiny bit from the steel don't end up suffering from that problem.

Thanks for looking Keith.
I mostly finish the handle material flush with the fittings. I do understand the thing about shrinkage but think that if the handle material doesn't shrink that material is always sticking up and to me fills bad. I have at times put a slight radius on the fittings to try and git rid of the sharp edge if the handle material does shrink.

Great looking piece, captured wonderfully by Coop ( as usual ) Its new caretaker will be happy with that one thats for sure!
Cheers Keith

Mike,

I think that is my favorite knife of yours. I like the Damascus, love the blade shape . . . really can't see much if any room for improvement. Congratulations.
