Damascus Case knives

I really don't now if my damascus peanut is stainless or not, but I have not babied it. Far from it, it has been carried and used for three years now, and has been buried up to the joint in the belly of a Bluefish right out of the Chesapeake bay, to garden work. The raindrop pattern in the damascus has been muted a bit, and the bone scales have darkened a bit, but the knife seems pretty unaffected by it all. It holds an edge very well, and is a little bit of a pain to sharpen, but not bad.

This has been my only experience with damascus blades, but based on this one, I would buy more Thomas damascus in a heartbeat. It performs well, and it's pretty to look at.

Carl the Raindrop Damascus is carbon 1075 and 15N20 2%nickel, the dark parts being carbon, hence the greying, like patina being worn and greying like after cutting something abrasive or getting darker cutting something that reacts with the carbon, I've re-etched mine a couple of times when it has turned muted grey, essentially forcing a patina to re-establish the pattern.

The pictures with the wood background are prior to re-establishing the pattern, the green is after

Here's my Saddlehorn. This started out as amber bone but I did some extra dying with leather dye to darken it up a bit. Love the Devin Thomas Raindrop!

I really like the richer brown tone you got with the dye - do you recall the color of the dye? Nice, nice Saddle-horn!

I used Fiebings leather dye - black in the recessed areas for contrast, and on the surface I used some sort of medium brown, and Cordovan to get some reddish tones.
Thanks, I really love the Case saddlehorn. It feels perfect in the hand!

Here's my 5383 split-back whittler. I really love this knife and the f&f is perfect!
