Was that an extraordinary chunk of ironwood on that, or is that kind of wood pretty common from your source?

I would say it's fairly typical. I usually get the highest grade of ironwood, and it often looks like this. I usually get it from Texas Knife Makers supply, but they seem to be out of stock right now. So I ordered some direct from the source, which is http://arizonaironwood.com/
