Here's a little hunter I'm finishing up. About a 4.5 inch damascus blade and 9 3/8 overall. Checkered blackwood handle and a nice sheath from Dad with elephant overlays lined with veg-tanned lambskin.

Really nice Ben. That's a real classy blade and sheath.

Having had a few very nice shotguns I really appreciate the checkering on both the knife and the sheath. That is an award winner, IMHO.

Love it, Ben. It looks terrific, and I'm sure it feels comfortable and secure in the hand as well. The blade also looks well suited to a variety of tasks, while David's work on the sheath is absolutely superb, as always.

Looks great Ben! I've always loved a good checkering job on rifles, handguns and they look outstanding on knives as well. :)

It simultaneously looks traditional and modern. I like the way your dad's sheath matches the patterns in the knife. Nice work. How did ya do that great checkering?

Thanks, guys! Brownshoe, lotsa practice and regular beatings help with checkering;). This is my third attempt at checkering and I think it's my best job so far. Trickiest part is the concave contours of the handle. It tends to throw curves in your checkering lines that have to be compensated for. It's work and I can totally see why it's not done very often:eek:

Beautiful piece. I hope to see this as an entry in the first annual Best Hunter thread.

Very nice work! I really like the handle, the checkering makes it stand out from similar knives. The sheath is beautiful.
