"Alabama Damascus". Is that made from a Massey-Ferguson output shaft and and a John Deere crank?
Seriously, that is a nice looking blade.

No, it is made from 49 Chevy bumpers and Grilles from 56 Buicks.:D

Actually, "Alabama Damascus" is made in Jacksonville, Alabama by Brad Vice. He also supplies all the damascus for Bear MGC cutlery.

Robert,
What does he use in this damascus. I've seen some of the Bear blades but I never really seriously considered them. I don't know why but I just did.
Give me a good reason to buy this one today. :-)

Brad Vice of Alabama Damascus sells his billets both at knife shows, and EBay. Here is what he quotes on one of his EBay sales........ "We use (3) layers of 52100, (4) layers of 5160, (3) layers of 203E, and (3) layers of 15N20. The steel is forged out and folded 5 times to give you 416 layers."

I bought this piece from Brad last year, so I am assuming that the piece I bought is the same as he lists on EBay.

Wow the way they make the damascus sounds like one good steel in the end

Sorry for the ignorance, when you get the billet, what steps do you have to do to make a blade from it? any forging or removal?
A short answer is enough, just interested? Thanks!

That is good enough for me. I'll take it.
I'll bet parts of Bobby Allison's old cars are in there-maybe the 52-100.

His billets are precision ground to a certain thickness. I use the stock removal method to make the knife.

Dr. D strikes with style again. That's a winner

I might be talking to you about one of those next year myself :)

Knife came today. Very understated damascus which I like.
I can definately see an old NASCAR inspection tag embedded in the edge.:D

I'm glad it made it OK....... Hope you enjoy the knife. There is a hint of a front bumper from a '69 Ford NASCAR Special embedded somewhere in those layers.

Thanks again............. Robert
