Thanks Burton :D.

Well today I managed to get some work done on this.

I started off squaring up the end of the scales that will go against the bolster,

I have also been needing to make this jig which will allow me to clamp one scale and clamp the tang to the jig so when I drill my hole through the scales it will be true and square,

Using the new jig,

One hole done 3 to go,

Got the holes drilled for the pins and traced the tang and used the bandsaw to cut off the excess,

Well now it is grinder time, I will take off most of the excess that is left and get it very close and finish the scale shaping with files and sand paper,

Looking pretty good now what do you think?

Thanks for looking and stay tuned more to come.

Mike, that is turning out real nice. I love these WIP threads, as it gives me much better insight into what into making a knife.

I'm glad you "talked" me into this blade design.

Hi Jim glad you chimed in. I hope you are enjoying this as much as I am :D.

ArtinNC Thanks and I wish I could take credit for the jig idea and it really works slick.

Bill my friend Thanks :D.

Well got some time to work on this today. I finished up on getting the scales shaped with files and sandpaper, so here are the action shots.

Next we will be cleaning up the bolsters and the blade beyond where the plunge cuts will be to 2000 grit all by hand.

Well today we are back at it and doing my least favorite job hand sanding but hey it has to be done. I am hand sanding the bolsters, front of the bolsters and about 2" of the blade in front of the bolster as this will be a major pain after I grind in the plunge cuts. The scales have been removed for this operation. I have this sanded to 320 grit now and will be going to 2000 grit.

Here I am using a chainsaw file rapped with sandpaper for the front of the bolster and I also use it to blend the radius of the bolster to the flat of the blade.

Using a small flat files to sand the blade.

I use a opti visor while finishing helps me see how my finishing is going. Here I am checking for scratches before moving to the next grit.

Mike this is a good WIP but don't make us wait to long I want to see the steel

Thanks Burton :D.

Dave, I could not help myself I wanted to see too so I did a 10 sec etch when I stopped today and I am pretty happy with it but it did not photo well. I have a full day shoeing horses tomorrow so I hope Thursday I can get the sanding done and grind the flats. If all goes well I am hoping to have this one done Sunday. So hang in there a few more days Dave ;) the finale is coming soon.

WOW what a summer here brought my shop to a halt but I have finally been able to get back in the shop and work on this one. Have it etched and will be gluing it up tonight. Did a mock up before etching and had the wife snap some pics so here they are.

Hey Dave been hiding on a tractor making hay then I had a dang horse trash my right leg. I have been down about 6 weeks, think my horseshoeing days are done. Well I will find out tomorrow if my leg can take the stress.

Should have some pics of this tomorrow etched so stay tuned.

Sorry to hear about the troubles Mike.. Hope things get back to "normal" soon. Though I have never done it, shoeing can be really stressful on the body. Good looking package so far. Just a waitin to see the pattern

Thanks guys :D,

Well while watching glue dry managed to get some pre glue up pics from the wife of the etched blade, hope you all like it.
