Greetings all.
It has been a very good month.
This is a piece that had been planned a while back as an evolution of a very nice integral design that Russ had turned out for me in carbon and gidgee. The general idea was to take that basic design and stretch it out some. That, and render it in damascus with ivory.
Here is the starting point rendered in a sketch with the ivory scales selected:
Notwithstanding all of the wonderfully complex damascus patterns out there, a tight, clean ladder has long remained one of my very favourites and that is what we selected for this project:
As an added twist, the ladder which forms the blade would transition to an opposing twist for the integral bolster.
Specs are as follows:
This piece travelled the Paul Long / Coop road, and the end results can be seen below:
I've never had a piece from Russ that failed to delight and this one is no exception. The damascus has a really wonderful shimmer and that bark ivory is rich with colour and texture. It's a joy to hold and to behold.
As always, it was a real pleasure working with Russ.
Thanks for looking.
Roger
