Damascus Khukuri?? Anyone have one??

Thankyou Mark, Actualy Ive spent 7 years collecting kukri & my research has become more & more serious along the way. ;)

You can find a lot of nice kukri in that time. :)

That damascus khukuri owned by Tatyana has some of the nicest lines that I've seen. Do you know what the handle is made of, and was it made in India or in Nepal?

Thanks, Spiral...

I'd gladly trade 5 or even 10 contemporary khuks for it... Was it purchased in that condition, or was it cleaned up a bit by the owner? Also, how rare are they, as far as numbers produced?

It was cleaned up quite a lot Dan, it was purchased from ebay with big rust patches on the blade, Tatyana cleaned & etched it with phosferric acid.

She had a great result, no pitting & a laminated blade to go with the handle & overall lines.

She normaly finds great swords of whatever design, I understand she veiws them as art pieces to use for intierior deisgn at her home. Shes certanly got a good eye for pieces that stand out.

How many made? I have no idea, but I think there a lot more of them about than even most seasoned collectors realise. The laminations are not usualy visible at first though due to cleaning, polishing, buffing, sanding over the years & perhjaps some were not ever etched even when new.

I wouldnt say there common, but they are about.
