Hello,

Obviously this is my first post here. I am a woodworker and somebody at the woodworking forum directed me here as I was inquiring about knife blanks. I am looking to make some kitchen knives and desired to use damascus blanks. I have searhced on the web and there is quite a large number of sellers. Do you guys have any recommendations on some good places to buy the blanks?

Thanks,
Kyle

You have to define what you want - carbon steel, stainless steel ?? What alloys in the mix ? Size also.

Type in "damascus billet" or "damascus blank" on ebay. Lots of them to choose from.

Wow $0.99 :barf: to $175  for damascus billets on eBay.

Whoda thunk it?

This is where I was kind of hoping on some input from you guys who know much more about this then I. I am looking for essentially making a good all around kitchen set up. The particular alloys in the mix isn't a particular to me. I am looking for it to hold an edge but not so hard that it is significantly more difficult to sharpen.

Exactly, lots of them to choose from. Was looking for knowledgable people here who have advise on refining the search. I am probably in the middle of the price range per a blade that you see listed on ebay.

Thanks.

If you want ground blanks I would try Craig Barr, I have never used one of his blanks but, have used a bunch of his damascus and it is excellent. He has items on Ebay. Chad Nichols also makes some excellent damascus, but I have never seen him offer a preground blank on Ebay

Jantz has a nice selection of damascus blanks on their website from parer to chef.

Kitchen kniife I'd use stainless just for the low maintenance. Carbon will hold a better edge though. If you know they'll take care of them (i.e. no dishwasher and dry off after use) then I'd go with carbon.
