And million dollar question is why they do that ? Work involved is same with good or bad steel and real steel like 1095 and 15N20 is cheap enough so they can still make money with good damascus .All of that no-name 'custom hand-forged' damascus on eBay is cheap Pakistani garbage made from non-hardenable steel. Sometimes they will advertise it as 1095+15N20, but it isn't.
I think you mean the process is the same...the work involved is quite obviously not. Getting from point A to point B requires you to things a certain way. Skipping a few steps is far less costly. Cutlery grade steel? Well, its a knife isn't it? Flux? Whats that? Heat treat? Well, it was hot when it was forged, thats good enough.....And million dollar question is why they do that ? Well , that knife certainly worth $ 35
I was gifted one of these.
The “Damascus” was literally just paint.
Don’t do it.
