Damascus or S30v steel?

That damascus is basically for looks, and in that respect is just fine.
Get the VG-10 for EDC.

There is no s30v Endura bros

Maybe he means ZDP189

The Damascus is the same steel as the VG10 it's just clad in the ornamental pattern welded steel and etched in acid to give it that amazing contrast between the steel and nickel.

I like the ZDP189 Endura

But I think you'll be just as happy with vg10

And there is a wave feature version.

Heck, why not just get the matriach for self defense? It has that wicked recurved Spyderco edge with the wave opener.

Some people say that damascus gives you a micro serrated edge due to the layers of steel. This cuts better and longer. I have only one damascus knife by Jodie Muller. It's a pretty hard blade (61hardness) and it performs better than both S30V and VG10. For me, Jody Muller damascus and heat treat is demonstrably better than VG10, S30V, 154CM, and 440C. The only steel that out performs it in my stable is William Henry's ZDP189 and a custom made from a saw mill blade, probably L6. Which is also one of the steels in my damascus knife.

DocT is correct, Spyderco's blade is not damascaus, but a type of SanMai blade. It will perform as good as any VG10 knife. I'd suggest getting the Endura in VG10 because it's a great blade, great steel and at a great price. Save your money and get a real damascus knife later on.
