A while back Kevin started a thread on handle materials which had a lot of interest. I would like to start one one the other end of the knife just to see where everyone's interest lies. It seems like there are endless varieties of damascus patterns (or maybe I should say pattern welded steel).

What is your favorite? It'll be interesting to see what really "talks" to everyone.

Thanks,
Gary

There's so many new ones all the time it seems like, and I fall in love with lots of patterns I see. If I had to pick a well known one, I keep coming back to ladder pattern if it looks wavy.

Anything by damasteel really moves me, especially Odin's Eye and Grosse Rosen

I think it's due to a lifelong exposure to shotgun barrels, but I really like the twisted patterns, and dislike the mosaic stuff.

This is a good thread topic and one that I've thought about frequently. I don't know much about damascus except that some of the patterns I've seen are exquisite even though I have no idea what the pattern actually is.

I don't mean to hijack the thread but I might respectfully suggest that if anyone has a photo of a great example of their favorite pattern that they post it along with their response so people like me can start identifying the pattern names with their actual appearance.

If I'm out of line here I'll start my own thread.:o

My favorite (right now) is Turkish Twist. Generally I tend to favor higher layer counts than lower. Generally I don't care much for mosaic but Mr. Lisch is starting to turn me around.

Here's a nice Turkish Twist from Mr Casey (hope the direct link is ok?):

And another on a gun barrel:

You beat me to posting a similar request...
Please, guys, let close-up pictures of your favorite Damascus
pattern do the talking....

Feather on large blades, cable or raindrop on smaller ones. It's like ice cream--all good, just some is a little better.
