There is some good looking steel on these pages. Earlier in the thread someone mentioned twisted patterns, being their favourite.
Here are a few photos of some of my work, all done in various styles of twisting.
I made some steel for a friend of mine. It was a 7 bar twist with about 10 layers in each bar. He sent this over to George Dailey to have a folder made.
I have been messing about with inlaying twisted rods into bars of steel lately. An experiment with ideas on how it was done in Anglo Saxon and Viking times.
A piece of barrel welding. This is only a short piece, about 4" long. The single bar of twisted steel turns about 12 times in the length.

And something a bit different. I think all my years of messing about with pattern welding and understanding how to control patterns with manipulation and careful forging has resulted in being able to do this. This photo shows half a bar and is only about 2.5" long by 1/2" wide. There is another 14" of it somewhere in my workshop.
This has been made out of flat sheets of steel. The only powder used was the borax.
