Hey guys,
This one is fresh off the bench. My first real hawk(i did one from a ball pien once).....Damascus head forged from 1084 and 15n20, caps are also damascus with copper spacers. The head was made using 27 layer steel for the sides with a hard bit of 1084 in the center. Handle is curly maple with some silver wire on both sides.
Let me know what you think.
Thanks for looking.
Mace

Mace, It turned out good! I think it would look better if you made the eye a little smaller and used a narrower haft. The head looks to small for the stick that its on.

Thanks Ray....I'll keep that in mind on the next one.:D I was trying to keep it light and fast and when I first put it on the haft it looked small. I took about 5 inches off the bottom and thined the haft a bit to try and make it look better. Had I thought more about it... your idea of keeping the eye smaller makes much more sense.
Thanks again for your input.

Really, really nice Mace! Great fit and finish. that maple rocks! How did you finish it. I'm actually starting to entertain thoughts of a hawk. I reallly like the wire inlay too. At first glance, it looked like a little reflection of the sun or something. Nice touch.

Very nice mace. The silver wire and maple are out of this world. I have to agree with Ray the haft could be a little thinner toward the end. But that is one fine hawk.

Mace, Its always better to leave the eye smaller until you get a feel for whats going on. You can always make it bigger. Making the eye smaller is more of a problem to fix. Did you fold this one or use a solid bar of damascus. The shape of the head really is good.

Pictures are great but it looked even better in person!!!
Great work Mace.

Thanks guys!:D

Ed, the handle is done with "Birchwood Casey True Oil" and lots of lovin.;)

Ray, I did this in four pieces. The two sides are made from a bar of 27 layer, then I had a piece of 1084 in the front and one in the back leaving a void in the middle to drift for the eye. Tacked it up and then welded it. Thanks for the comment about the shape.

Wow !! Beautiful work Mace !!

Really nice head shape, I especially like the S curve on the bottom of the head.

The artistry in your wire star inlay is simply outstanding !!

All the way around, a great looking hawk

Really nice, but I gotta go with Ray on the eye size thing.
Everything else is stunning.

You know my feelings about silver wire inlay and curly maple, bro... but that is just incredible. Really amazing! I think the keeping the layers of steel minimal is exactly what this demanded, too... great combination, that's for sure!

I wouldn't know the correct proportions for a tomahawk head and pole if it bit me on my wee lil' buns, so I'll defer to everyone else here.

...so this one brings you to a total of 3 blades for this year, right?:D

Thanks guys....
Matt, Do you even have buns????? I'll have to ask Spangles, or did he only see...uh...well nevermind.;)
Mace

P.S. 3???? Is that how many you ground into dust last weekend?:D
