I am looking for a Damascus folder, I know that most Damascus now are made for looks, but the principle behind the true manufacturing process sounds sound. Who makes good Damascus for daily use? (Not for looks) I am willing to spend about $200.00 on one.

One option would be one of Darren Ralph's knife kits, or one from Jantz. Darren's DDR-BL3 and several others can be ordered with a damascus blade. Assembly is fairly simple. You might want to check it out.

I make damascus from 1084 and 15n20, both are superb knife steels and have an excellent contrast. I offer about 10 patterns and sell steel to a few folder makers. Sean Cochran is the one that pops into my mind since he made a nice folder with my raindrop for $300. Its a bit more than your price but well worth the money.

I also sell to Frank Niro who makes absolutely stunning damascus folding knives, but his are a bit more expensive starting in the $800 range. Chuck Gedraitis also makes great folders.

Edit- If your looking for more exotic patterns in L6 and 01 try Delbert Ealy. Deker also makes nice 1084 and 15n20 damascus too.

Thanks for the kind words Dan. I've got some good stuff coming out in the next batch...Here's a teaser...

You may have a tough time hitting a $200 price point for a damascus folder though.
