I purchased a damascus blank from Alabama Damascus, but I am not happy with the surface finish. I understand that the etching leaves sight contour around the patterns in the steel, but this blank still has marks from the rolling and stamping processes as well. Also, the etching is not as even as I would like it to be. This isn't to say that I'm not happy with the product, just maybe a bit too picky.

My question as a relative newbie to knifemaking (handlemaking, really): What is the best way to polish out these light marks in hardened steel?

After this, I plan to re-etch via the Thunderforge method posted previously.

Thanks all.
