anyone know of any makers who forge scissors?....anyone making them out of damascus?.....i got a friend who is looking to have a pair made......any help would be appreciated.....ryan

I don't know any scissor makers but I can supply the damascus if you find a maker. I use 1084(with vanadium) and 15n20, its a bit overkill for scissors but my prices are right. My prices range from $40-$60 a cubic inch on most patterns I produce.

Go out online and look around.
My wife used to cut hair for a living. Very tough career field.
She is left handed and the "decent" scissors she has are $300. I am 99% sure that they are 440C. That seems to be THE quality steel out there for the stylist bunch out there.
Im pretty sure they don't know about any of the "newer" steels (VG10, CPM 154, etc...) as the companies and people who use and make these things are sales people, not knife people.

I don't know what type of scissors you are looking for, but I have looked into making my own. The problem with scissors is that every stylist wants a brand name so that if there is something wrong they could have it taken care of.

There is a world of scissors out there. Good luck on your search.
